Why You Want to Avoid SlideShare Slap & Post

by | Feb 11, 2013

slideshare_400x100Did you know SlideShare receives millions of visits and views?

  • Nearly 60 million visits
  • And over 150 million views
  • A month!

Another interesting fact. The average number of slides per presentation is increasing.

Before you go digging out all your old PowerPoint presentations, you may want to think twice.

You probably want to avoid the ol’ SlideShare Slap & Post.

SlideShare Train

In Exploring SlideShare Options, I shared my intent of hopping on the SlideShare train.

When you combine my love of PowerPoint with SlideShare’s viewing potential, checking it out was a no-brainer.

One of the first steps I took was to educate myself on SlideShare. I purchased Todd Wheatland’s book, The Marketer’s Guide to SlideShare: How to Build Your Brand, Generate Leads & Create Opportunities.

I am still going through the book, but I highly recommend it. I have no affiliation with Todd. I simply like the book.

The book squelched any urges I had for doing what I call SlideShare Slap & Post.

Practice What Your Preach

In support of my new-found interest, the following is a SlideShare presentation, Why You Want to Avoid SlideShare Slap & Post.

I plan future posts on the nuts and bolts of SlideShare and other tips I learn along the way.

Let me know what questions you have about the platform and I will be happy to find the answers.

What tips do you have for SlideShare?

Only if you want it on the list, Anne. It’s not for everyone – in my humble opinion – but then, that’s true of most things in life. 😉

Slideshare seems to rank very nicely in Google – I’ve been noticing it crop in in search results all over the place. So I guess another tip would be to optimize the title of your presentation so you can get some search engine love…

That is a very good tip, Shaun. I added a new post that has some other Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ideas. I think it’s not something we think about with SlideShare.

Thanks for sharing your tip, Shaun.
