A significant part of my business is ghostwriting articles.
I’m often asked, “Doesn’t it bug you that you write it and someone else’s name goes on it?”
My answer is always, “No, it doesn’t.”
Do I like to see my name in print? You bet. So, what is it about ghostwriting that appeals to me so much?
Here’s what I came up with.
I Get to Become Someone Else
I know there are those out there that would have a field day with that statement.
What don’t I like about myself?
- I thought I would make a good actor.
- That’s more fantasy than reality
When ghostwriting, I strive to be the voice of the person I am representing. I get to see the topic through their eyes.
With the right questions, I unlock their passion for their business. Who doesn’t love to hear someone talk about something they are really passionate about?
Translating that passion into the written word is one of the biggest kicks I get out of ghostwriting articles.
I Get to Learn New Things
Even when I stay in my health care niche, I get to learn a ton of new ideas when I am ghostwriting.
I write for many executives and hear some of the brightest and most innovative ideas.
When writing outside of health care, there are whole industries and concepts just waiting for me.
For example, I discovered there are far more niches to the pet care industry than I could ever imagine.
- Pet taxi
- Pet hotels
- Pet camp
- Pet psychology
- Pet mobile grooming
- Lost pet recovery
- And even pooper scooper services!
It’s like finding a great book, rich with new ideas and new locations.
I Get to See my Words in Print
The first time I saw a print article of one I had ghostwritten, it felt really, really good.
It didn’t even matter that it had someone else’s byline on it.
Th reaction surprised me.
- I certainly have a healthy ego
- Ask any of my friends
So, you would think the fact that it didn’t have my name on it would be a problem.
What I find with ghostwriting is there is still pride in authorship.
It’s like my little secret pleasure in knowing, “Hey, I wrote that!”
What adds to the satisfaction is when my customer is happy with the results. When my ghostwriting demonstrates their passion in a way they like – priceless!
Like most writers, I know I have the next great novel in me somewhere. In the meantime, however, I don’t mind ghostwriting at all.
In fact – I love it!
Yep, Cathy, that’s why I love it too… are you going to move into books?
.-= Anne Wayman´s last blog ..Details and the Story =-.
I would love to and already have a possibility in the pipeline. I’ve done some short e-books but would like to expand that.
I have been looking around your site for reference material and support information. Any in particular you suggest?
Thanks for stopping by, Anne.
