In an earlier post about word cloud software, I mentioned I used Snagit to save images.
I realized that some of you may not be familiar with this popular screen capture tool.
For this Techie Tip Thursday, let’s look at Snagit.
Simply Snagit
I have been using this software since 2007. Created by TechSmith, it has been around for 20 years.
It started out as a simple screen capture and print tool for TechSmith customers and evolved to much more.
TechSmith released version 10 of Snagit in May 2010.
Here are a few of the things you can do with this software.
- Capture a selected region of a screen
- Capture a window, scrolling window of a web page or a full screen shot
- Keep weblinks active in the above options
- Use its Snagit Editor for editing captures saved to a file
Snagit Editor provides a wide range of options.
- Saving the capture as a PNG, BMP, JPEG or PDF file
- Sending an image to Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Add enhancements such as arrows, cursors, lines, text
- Adjust color depth
- Add text, or view the frames of a video capture
- Add custom edge effects like drop shadow or torn or faded edges
- Manipulating the image through flip, mirror, shear, rotate, crop, and cut
Snagit Education
What I like most about this tool is its simplicity. You know how I love simple.
- You do not need to be a graphic artist to use it
- This is just the surface of all it can do
I keep promising myself that I am going to get serious about educating myself on all its capabilities.
TechSmith makes that easy. They have some of the best training videos and tutorials.
I just downloaded the version 10. Once I have played around with it, I’ll create a post on its new features.
Snagit Uses
Here are some of the ways I use Snagit.
- Training manuals or how-to guides
- Editing images for blog posts
- Adding edited images to Word and PowerPoint documents
- Combining multiple photos into one
- Removing or blurring brand names or logos for copyright purposes
For me, it is definitely a bargain for the cost of the product.
The support is top-notch, and I can’t wait to try out the new version.
It captured my heart – I ♥ Snagit.
Despite my gushing, I have no affiliation with the product.
Do you use Snagit? What do you think?
