Is Your Contact Information a Secret?

by | Jan 26, 2011

You create brilliant business communication.

  • It inspires
  • It motivates
  • It has no contact information

Ever happen to you? Don’t you hate that?

Where’s the 411?

Jeanne Kolenda, a coach for small businesses, recently asked what things drive you crazy in internet business communication.

No contact information drives me crazy.

As I shared with Jeanne, this pet peeve started with email.

I want to call you back, but there is no email signature with your phone number.

  • So, I have to go to my contacts
  • Look up your phone number
  • And call you back – or not

If I am a customer, or potential customer, the “or not” is a pretty big deal.

Directory Assistance – How May I Help You?

At a minimum, the omission of your contact information is an inconvenience to your customer.

At its worst, it’s annoying and could mean a lost customer.

Here are some simple suggestions to ensure your customer has your contact information.

  • Email – Use the signature feature of the email program and include contact information
  • Mobile Devices – Put it in email sent from mobile devices – if your device has a signature feature, use it
  • Voicemail – Leave your phone number (and, in some cases, email address) on your voice message – speak slowly
  • Business Communication – Include it on all forms of business communication – print or online
  • Blog/Website – have your contact information on every page or post
    • Put it in the footer
    • Use linked text in the post/page with the information
    • Use the email/social media icons

Make it easy for people to contact you.

Go forth and communicate.

Excellent advice! I’ve been guilty in the past of not having a proper email signature linked to my cell phone.

Jodi-that’s one I have been guilty of, too. It seems to be the exception rather than the rule for people to include their email signature on their cell phones. Thanks for stopping by, Jodi.

    Hi Cathy,

Such a great point. Your contact information should be easily available to your visitors… and not having it will definitely cause you to lose sales, too.
