Some blame texting shortcuts for the increased number of spelling errors that populate resumes, emails, and other forms of business communication.
What the Professionals Think
In a previous post, I shared some results of a discussion going on in a LinkedInยฎ group. The discussion is still going strong. It asked HR professionals if they would automatically reject a job candidate if his or her resume, email or cover letter contained typos, spelling or grammatical errors.
Some of the respondents attributed the increase in these types of errors to the unique texting language and abbreviated communication that is so prevalent today.

Cathy,
I want to vote YES, YES, YES! The only problem is I don’t know how to vote because I don’t really agree with the choices. I think that yes, text lingo is responsible for many errors, but I do NOT think it is accepted form.
I do think it is careless and bad writing but I also DO think texting is responsible for some of this because no one knows how to spell anymore.
I’ve been participating in that discussion and it is really interesting. I also posted on my blog about this topic and have been watching that conversation.
Great minds, ha ha! Thanks for the follow up.
Jen-thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Maybe I should take the statements off and just leave, “Yes, No and I don’t know.”
That does change the perspective. I think I’ll do that. Thanks for the suggestion. It has been a fascinating discussion. I’ll have to check out your post. Thanks again.
Want the truth Cathy? I haven’t even tried texting yet ๐

This, Anne, is one of many reasons I love you. ๐ I rarely use texting and I am often challenged by the texting language.
Thanks, as always, for letting me feel good about myself. ๐
I must have posted my comment seconds after you did. Yes, yes, yes!!!! Texting makes it much worse, plus kids are sloppy and don’t know how to spell because schools don’t teach phonics anymore.
