3 Summer Fun Business Writing Ideas For the Kid Inside

by | Jun 5, 2013

bigstock-Senior-woman-playing-with-her--14497196Do you remember that last day of grade school before summer started?

Squirming in your seat, you groaned over the slow movement of the clock’s hands.

Finally, it happens.

♫ School’s out for summer. ♫

Working through the summer has to be one of life’s biggest disappointments.

  • Maybe that’s why my writer friends and I are so restless
  • Do you feel the same?
  • Business writers of the world unite

Yes, that’s you – even if all you write is a business blog.

Let’s look at 3 summertime favorites to put kid fun back into our writing.

Summertime Favorites

Think back to those hot summer days.

What were your favorite outdoor toys? Or favorite activities?

Here are 3 of my favorites.

  • The hula hoop
  • Slip-n-slide
  • The public pool

Isn’t it interesting that the first two trend all the way back to ancient times (my childhood) and they are still around?

Classics remain classics.

List your 3 favorites.

  • Let the good-time memories inspire your business writing
  • I’ll show you what I mean

As a child, I loved the hula hoop.

  • I was quite good
  • Contest-winning good

And, no, that is not me in the picture.

I think back to that skinny, no curves kid and what she has become.

Why is it despite the development of hips (overdevelopment for much of my adult life), the kid was far superior to the adult?

Physics alone would seem to indicate victory would go to the adult version?

Trust me. That is not the case.

So, how does that inspire business writing?

Bring back the kid inside.

  • The one excited about your new business
  • What brought you summertime joy?
  • Have you lost something along the way?

How can you recapture the kid inside?

When I started my business writing company, my joy was in the freedom and the creativity.

I loved the idea of making business writing simple, fun, and unique. What’s simpler, more fun and more unique than a hula hoop?

I can use that.

It’s good when I remember that.

I am a middle child of seven.

We did not have the means for a ton of toys. I learned early what it meant to share.

The slip-n-slide fit the bill on multiple levels.

  • Inexpensive fun toy
  • Best shared with others
  • We loved it

And slip-n-slide is such a simple idea.

Are you detecting a pattern about my life?

Business writing application?

  • Social media, business blogs help small businesses keep marketing costs down
  • Keep your writing simple, clear and uniquely yours (you knew that was coming)
  • Simple ideas communicated clearly in your style get shared – a lot

I think I discovered the reason for my current day wrinkles.

It was all that time I spent at the pool in the summer.

I never tired of leaping from the side of the pool or diving board. I tested my limits for swimming under water while holding my breath.

Life was good.

I smile at the memories of pool-time fun.

  • Re-energizing your business writing makes it fun again
  • You never tire of leaping into new topics
  • Test yourself with new ideas
