Social Media Loses in TKO With Time

In boxing, a TKO is a Technical Knock Out.

  • The fight stops as one boxer is unable to safely continue
  • The other boxer is named the winner

In a fight against time, social media loses in a TKO.

Saving Time

Do you ever feel like no one reads beyond 140 characters?

  • We shorten words in text-speak
  • We create acronyms we may not need
  • We scan for the highlights

We may argue we are saving time – are we really?

Or do we not want to take the time – big difference.

Understanding Time

We have endless resources for managing time.

  • But, do we understand time?
  • Do we know when to take the time?

Here are a few examples where taking time makes sense.

Guest Posts

If you make a pitch for a guest post, take the time.

  • Read the blog’s guest post guidelines
  • Get familiar with the categories
  • Interact through comments
  • Offer an idea for a post

Don’t ask the blog owner to suggest a post topic – unless you know the owner.

Relationships take time.

Time Share

Time is a precious commodity for most of us.

If we ask others to take time for us, it’s only fair we do the same.

  • Write a recommendation or testimonial for someone
  • Retweet, Like, +1 the posts/articles you appreciate
  • Share your knowledge and skills

A time share is a great investment.

Reaction Time

Have you ever had this happen to you?

  • You read something that pushes your button
  • You dash off a snarky response
  • You discover you misread the written word

Embarrassing, isn’t it?

I like to think it’s our wake-up call or a slap on the head.

Even if you do an accurate read, but totally disagree, take the time.

  • Think about your response
  • Make sure push buttons don’t cancel meaning

An unprofessional or rude remark is time lost.

Telling Time

Social media is one of the greatest tools of modern marketing.

Learning the difference between saving time and taking time is a winning combination.

    Good tips, Cathy. One of the time tips I use often is to ask myself throughout the day, what’s the best use of my time. That often helps me stay focused.
