A previous post shared a parting of the ways between Skype and Mozilla Firefox.
- Skype software wasn’t playing nice with Firefox
- Firefox attributed the application as the #1 or #2 reason for crashes
- As a result, Firefox banned the software as an Add-on
Skype is ready for a reconciliation.
Wondering what this has to do with the power of social media? Read on.
That’s What I Call Follow-up
I wrote the Skype/Firefox post seven months ago.
Recently, I received an email from a Skype representative that referenced the prior post.
- To be honest, I didn’t remember the issue
- Okay, I barely remembered writing the post
- Boomer brain strikes again
The representative wanted to let me know that Skype fixed the problem and asked I let my readers know.
Wow – now, that’s follow-up.
Since, I am hardly up there with the big boys and girls when it comes to blog traffic, I was quite surprised.
It shows that companies definitely take social media seriously – even those posts that were largely tongue-in-cheek.
The Update
I have no problem sharing the information the representative sent.
I do not use Skype so I cannot attest to the performance of the Firefox-compatible version.
- The new release is Click to Call R8 for Windows
- It supports Firefox 5 and 6 on Windows
- It has “minor improvements” for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox on PC
You can find more information and download the updated version here.
My work here is done.
I wonder if Skype needs a business writer.
- How about you?
- Do you use Skype?
Try writing a post about it. You never know who may come calling.

Hmm. You do know that Skype is now part of Microsoft, right?
That’s part of the change.
And, I, for one, am thrilled that they are worried about Firefox compatibility.
You know, now that you mention it, Roy, I did know that but just forgot-a common occurrence with me. 🙂
Thanks for shaking up the brain cells. 🙂
My son uses Skype to talk to his school buddies. I use Skype on my Droid to talk to my son at home. It is lots of fun. We don’t do video chat, only IM.
Pam, I think it’s great to stay in touch that way. I keep saying I’m going to do it with my buddies around the country, but just don’t seem to get around to it.
Thanks for stopping by, Pam.
