It’s Health Care Tuesday at my health care blog.
Since the post this week has a social media theme, I am posting it here and at Simply stated health care.
Boomer Caretakers Look to Social Media for Help
Posted at Simply stated health care ===========================We already know Baby Boomers Rock Social Media.
A recent study from Age Lessons,a consulting firm for multi-generational issues, revealed that boomer caretakers often turn to social media for help.
Age Lessons Boomer Social Media Study
The Age Lessons Boomer Social Media Study is the result of research on the online habits of 3.8 million baby boomers who are also caretakers. Baby boomers are people born between 1946 and 1964.
Here are a few of the findings from the study.
- Boomer caretakers spent 150 minutes per person per month on Facebook
- They viewed 1,010 pages
- That was over 70 percent more time and pages than the average internet user
The report also lists the top 10 sites of boomer caretakers. LinkedIn® was number four (37 percent) and Twitter was number nine (21 percent).
Laurel Kennedy, founder of Age Lessons, provides the following reasons for the high use of social media for boomer caretakers.
- Their most valuable assets are time and information
- Social media allows them to connect to others when and where they choose
- They share suggestions and receive support
- Online activity saves time shopping and researching
Boomer Noise
With an estimated 80 million baby boomers, it is a segment of the population worth following.
An estimated 17 million baby boomers are spending more than 10 percent of their income taking care of parents. Social media is a welcomed outlet for many baby boomers.
The basic economics of supply and demand leave many boomers looking for —
- Accurate and easy-to-understand health and financial information
- Simple online solutions for making life easier
- A social outlet for support and sharing
Sounds like an entrepreneur’s dream market.
