Ghostwriter Trick or Treat in Time for Halloween

by | Oct 29, 2021

If you know me, you know I love Halloween. I wonder if that’s the reason I loved being a ghostwriter.

I first published this post on October 29, 2012. The Halloween goblins prompted me to update it on the same day – eight years later. I decided to convert it into a video.

And now it’s time to roll it out again – just in time for Halloween. I hope you enjoy it.

Ghostwriter Trick or Treat

When I first started my business communication business, the strong feelings about ghostwriters surprised me. I’m not talking about writing fraudulent studies under the name of experts. Or any other unethical activity. But those who view any ghostwriting as something bad.

Ghostwritten projects were my bread and butter for my business (I’m semi-retired now). I loved helping busy subject matter experts share their passion for what they do. The following video may give you a different perspective on the ghostwriter.

Trick or Treat

Remember how you planned for Halloween as a child?

  • You searched for the best costume
  • You scoped out the homes with the best treats

Use that same single-mindedness when looking for a ghostwriter.

  • Find a ghostwriter who listens
  • Look for one who is eager to learn
  • Feel a connection

The trick is in recognizing the treat when you find it.

What tips do you have?

I think the trick to being a great ghostwriter is to “drape oneself” in the costume of the retainer… Since one is being contracted to present the image of the retainer, what better way than to employ one’s thespian talents and act as if?

    That’s one approach, Roy. 😉

Love how you were able to add the fun aspects of the season while also defining what it means to be a ghostwriter! All good points and fitting for the season. It’s so consistent with your tweets too.

As someone who has only ghost written a handful of times, I am going to bookmark this in case the opportunities comes up once again. Great tips. Thanks Cathy!
