Are You a Social Media Snow Hermit?

by | Dec 6, 2010

After spending nearly 30 years in southern California, snow was not a frequent sight.

When almost a foot of snow fell last week here in Idaho, I contemplated becoming a snow hermit.

You know the kind – hole up until the snow melts – that way you won’t have to shovel it.

It occurred to me that might also describe some social media users – Social Media Snow Hermits.

7 Signs You Might Be a Social Media Snow Hermit

  1. You lurk behind your keyboard, gazing at the blogosphere.
  2. You stay out of ongoing storms.
  3. You watch others shovel, thinking to yourself, “Suckers.”
  4. You envy the “A” bloggers with snow blowers.
  5. You wait until all around you melts.
  6. You close the blinds on the world outside.
  7. You move to warmer climates for blogging.

Shoveling Out

What propels us to the hermit life?

  • Fear?
  • Laziness?
  • Apathy?

Sometimes you just have to pick up that shovel —

  • You can cuss each shovelful
  • You can dream of warmer climates
  • You can vow you will never do it again

But, a funny thing might happen —

  • The path becomes clearer
  • You feel good about your accomplishment
  • You might end up affording a snow blower

It will never get done if you hole up and don’t participate.

7 Tips for Getting it Done
