Business writers come in all shapes and sizes.
- Some are professional writers
- Others are business owners who also write
- And some have been drafted into writing
Even the professional business writer has a bad day now and then.
Bad business writing hits us all – professional and non-professional alike.
- You’re exhausted from working hard
- You’ve temporarily lost your mojo
- You feel pressured to meet that deadline
The good news is there are warning signs.
Warning Signs
Take a look at your most recent business writing.
- Is it a business blog post?
- A white paper?
- Or maybe a marketing brochure
Check out this SlideShare presentation and see if you fell victim to any of the 7 Warning Signs.
Then go out there and fix it. I’ll be right behind you.
Laugh and Learn
I hope you experienced a smile or two from the presentation.
We’re human. We all make mistakes.
I still pull out my marketing litmus test – no matter how long I have been writing.
Sometimes you need a reminder of what your client or prospect is thinking ~
- Who are you?
- Why should I care?
- What problems are you going to solve for me?
- What makes your product or service different from any other?
- Prove it
How do you know when it’s time to go back to the drawing board on your business writing?
What warning signs can you share?

Great slide share. 🙂
One warning sign for me is when I’m coming up with the same ideas for different clients. Not that I’ve implemented them, but that I thought “Hey, this is a good idea!” only to realize I’d just done that for someone else. Oy. Time for a nap. 🙂
Thanks, Lori.
That’s a good one, Lori. Maybe that’s why the idea sounded so familiar? 😀
