10 Sizzling Blog Post Ideas for Summer

by | Jun 18, 2021

Although not officially here, summer offers some cool topics for blogging. So let’s break out 10 sizzling blog post ideas.

Sizzling Blog Post Topics are Hot

My approach to topics is a “what’s in front of your face” method. The slap of triple-digit heat sure is an attention-getter.

Jot down the first 10 ideas that pop into your head when you think summertime.

To get you started, the following are my 10 ideas.

After you have your ideas, put a business spin on the word.

#1 – Hot Blog Post

Do you hate heat as much as I do? Perhaps it was 25+ years living in San Diego with average summer temperatures in the 70s that spoiled me.

But there’s inspiration in pain, right? The first topic even puts a positive spin on heat.

Hot Products

  • Do a review about the latest hot products.
  • Ask your readers for their opinion and other products they enjoy.
  • Depending on your business, create categories for regular review.

Tip: If blogging about your own hot product, keep it informative, not salesy.

Hot Under the Collar

  • Describe an incident with an upset customer (maybe the customer was you)
  • How did customer service handle it?
  • Was it effective? What (if anything) would you have done differently?

#2 – Swimming with post ideas

As a child, I used to love going to the public swimming pool. Back then, that was our water world. Or my favorite, Slip ‘N Slide. I love how so many of my childhood toys are still around (even though many view those as ancient times). 😊

Perhaps summer for you means pool parties. All are good topics.

Public Pool

  • Describe a public business event where you felt you were over your head.
  • Did you sink or swim? What did you do to stay afloat?
  • What could you have done differently before diving in head first?

Slip ‘N Slide

  • Write about a campaign that was a fun ride.
  • Did you hit any bumps along the way?
  • How did you slide over them?

Pool Party

  • Blog about an event that brought a lot of people together.
  • Who or what made the biggest splash? How?
  • Describe any belly flops or ideas that sank like a stone.

#3 – Sweat

And the reason I hate heat? Sweat. Who needs more laundry? Yet even sweat stimulates sizzling blog post topics.

  • Does public speaking make you sweat?
  • What helps calm your nerves?
  • What other business situations made you sweat?
  • How did you overcome your nervousness?

#4 – Dry (Hopefully not the blog post)

I do not subscribe to the theory that dry heat is somehow better. Heat is heat – but it would take more than that to stop the ideas.

  • How do you overcome dry spells in your business?
  • What inspires you when the ideas dry up?
  • Has your dry sense of humor ever gotten you in trouble?

#5 – Vacation

Remember when vacations were what summer was all about?

Even if you didn’t go anywhere, the summer off from school was a treasured vacation.

  • What vacation planning tips could help you in business?
  • How does a vacation restore your energy when you return to work?
  • Any funny vacation stories to share?
  • What vacation discoveries transferred to your business? (New ideas, self-discovery)

#6 – Camp

As a middle child of seven, my family could not afford summer camp. I don’t know that I missed it.

My vision of it was the movie, The Parent Trap – the original with Haley Mills. Maybe that’s why Mom and Dad nixed that idea.

  • Blog about any seminars or Boot Camps you attended.
  • Was it worth your time? Why or why not?
  • What were the key takeaways?
  • Any disappointments?
  • How did you keep in touch with your business?

#7 – Car Trip

Imagine seven kids, Mom and Dad, and a station wagon where air conditioning meant rolling down the windows.

That was our summer vacation – a car trip from northern Indiana to my grandparents’ home in Dallas, Texas.

It could explain why I love driving alone.

  • Do you prefer cruising alone or collaborating?
  • How do you handle conflicts that arise in a group?
  • Describe a strategic plan that took a detour.
  • Was it planned or unexpected?
  • What cost-saving tips have you learned along the way?

#8 – Family

Whether it’s vacations or summers at home, family play a key role. I am continually fascinated by family dynamics.

  • Is there someone who has been a business role model for you?
  • If you have employees, how do you recognize individuals?
  • What team dynamics created the best results?
  • What do you do to allow time for play?

#9 – June Gloom

This one came from my time living in San Diego.

It referred to overcast, gray days that the locals call the marine layer. Before the weather got so crazy, it often occurred in June – the entire month of June.

  • What have you done to shake off a gloomy spot in your business?
  • Describe that period and what worked to shine a light on it.
  • How do you wake up your business when you’re feeling uninspired?
  • How do you interject color into bland, boring business writing?

#10 – Barbecue

My dad was a master of the grill – hamburgers and hot dogs never tasted so good.

I’ll take something off the grill over any modern-day appliance fare.

  • Describe the last time you were grilled by a client/prospect.
  • What were they questioning? Was it a powerplay? How did you handle it?
  • What business practices do you prefer to do the old way? Why?
  • When was the last time you were at the controls with a group of colleagues?

Summer Break

There you have it – a summer of ideas for your business blog.  Feel free to use any of the above topics or create your own sizzling blog post.

  • Jot down your ideas.
  • Put a business spin on it.
  • Have fun with it!

What’s hot on your summer list?

Very clever Cathy, and lots of good blogging ideas.

I’ve actually literally blogged about a couple of your ideas — specifically camping as a great method for getting away from distractions so it’s easier to get writing done.

Public speaking and selling make me sweat! I am definitely having some June gloom right now and I absolutely hated summer camp… You hit on some great topics and some terrific ideas for future blogs. I do believe dry heat is better than humid heat, but I come from New England and our heat seems like it is always humid!

Hi Suerae: I was raised in the Midwest so I understand humidity as well. I just hate heat so whether it’s dry or humid. to me, it’s all degrees (no pun intended) 🙂 of being miserable.

Let us know if the sizzling topics inspire a post, Suerae. 🙂

Thanks Cathy. These are great ideas. I had never thought of brainstorming like that for my blog post. I usually just write about what comes to my mind. This is a wonderful idea. 🙂

Super ideas, Cathy! I’m with you — never attended a summer camp beyond a daytime Bible camp. Didn’t want to. It would have cut into my lazy time. 🙂

Love the way your boomer mind works Cathy – the ideas are great but the way you get at them, with a word list like that, is spectacular.
