1 Reason Number Headings Get Old

Old number-web small Is it just me or are you getting a bit tired of all the “number” headlines?

  • 12 Steps to Better Health
  • 7 Tips on Social Media
  • Top 10 Sales Techniques

Don’t get me wrong. They have their place.

  • I am all for simple and clear writing
  • I use numbered lists all the time

But is there no other way to create a headline?

One reason I have grown weary of “number” headings is that everyone does them. After a while, I lose interest.

Maybe it’s because I’m a middle child of seven. Growing up, I wanted recognition as an individual. I am just suggesting that you keep it fresh and uniquely yours.

A New Twist on an Old Plot

It’s like a successful television show. Once a show has a winning theme, it is duplicated over and over again.Yes, imitation is the highest form of flattery, but for me, it only reminds me of the originator.

There is nothing wrong with incorporating proven techniques into your writing but make it your own. Brian Clark at Copyblogger often uses numbers in headings but look at his creative use of them in this post.

Many Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts don’t sacrifice creativity for increased traffic to your website.

Use numbers in headings but don’t make it just about the number. In the end, if you use a “cookie cutter” approach in your writing, it won’t be read.
