Do You Miss LinkedIn Answers?

bigstock-Common-Sense-Phrase--32385563If it’s not broke – don’t fix it.

Do you feel like your social media platforms largely ignore that adage?

Me, too.

I suppose the problem is with so many users, someone believes it IS broken.

Like the LinkedIn Answers feature.

I miss Answers.

Looking for Answers

For those of you who did not experience the Answers feature, the following is a quick description.

  • Answers was a forum where you posted questions on a variety of subjects
  • You received answers (or opinions) from LinkedIn members
  • On January 2013, LinkedIn shut down the feature

They announced a partnership with Quora, a platform I wasn’t particularly enamored with.

To be fair, I have not been back to Quora in quite a while, so I don’t know if I would feel the same way now.

The Spirit of Sharing

What I loved about Answers was the true spirit of sharing.

Answers was people helping people.

Sure, it had its share of spammy marketers, but for the most part, I found the feature very useful.

  • I posted techie questions
  • I asked for opinions on various purchasing options
  • I answered questions in my specialty niche

An Answers bonus was its wealth of resources for blog post ideas. Answers also generated great contacts just by answering questions.

And most did not expect a thing in return.

You know – the kind of activity that builds relationships.

And isn’t that what social media is supposed to be?

While I appreciate LinkedIn’s Groups, it’s not the same.

  • It’s getting harder to find controlled Groups that manage marketing pitches
  • Typically, the groups don’t offer immediate access to cross-subject experts

With Answers, I picked a category and posted my question in one place.

The topic could be a question about WordPress, social media, small business practices or asking for feedback on a product or service. The sky was the limit.

I found it quick and efficient.

I embrace change (really, I do), but this is one change I wish did not happen.

What about you?

  • Did you use LinkedIn Answers?
  • If so, what did you think about it?
  • Are there other social media platforms you miss?

Please share your thoughts in Comments.

P.S. To my American friends, I hope you are enjoying Labor Day. Stay safe and have fun!
