5 Holiday Marketing Tips to Ring in a New Year

by | Nov 26, 2012

Does your business’ marketing take a tryptophan trip to Snoozeville during the holidays?

  • Have you already written off the year?
  • Are you caught up in your own holiday shopping?

There’s something about the start of the holiday season that has us looking forward to the New Year.

Pump up your marketing right now to ring in the New Year in style.

The following are 5 simple ideas for boosting the holiday spirit – and sales.

1. Create your own holiday offers.

Dress up your products/services in their holiday finery and open the door to sales.

Repackage existing services or products with a holiday theme.

a) Want your own holiday treat? Our most popular products are on sale. Order now and we’ll throw in free shipping.

b) In the spirit of the holidays, all ebooks are half-price.

2. Tap into the procrastinator market.

Ideally, you planned for your holiday offers before now

  • If you are notorious for last-minute action, you are not alone
  • Use that shared procrastination to your advantage
  • Who understands it better, right?

a) Did the holidays sneak up on you, too? There’s still plenty of time to grab some holiday deals.

b) The year may be almost over, but the great deals are still here.

3. Market your products/services as gift ideas.

Put a twist on your marketing campaign.

Think like a gift recipient of your product or service.

What do you want and how will the gift benefit you?

  • Gift certificates for services
  • Business products that make life easier

Then market the benefits to your buyers – for them as the gift giver – and for their customer as the recipient.

Let the buyer be the hero to the rescue.

4. Give a gift of your own product or service.

  • Do you have a prospect you wish would try your product or service?
  • Looking for a way to thank a loyal customer?

A gift of your product or service shows a belief in what you offer.

5. Remember your holiday greetings.

Many business owners assume their customers are unavailable during the holidays.

Often, the opposite is true.

  • Executives who travel frequently are in the office
  • The holiday rush creates increased needs for your customers

Now is not the time to stop communicating with customers.

  • Stay in touch
  • Offer help
  • Thank them for their business

Very good points Cathy. As a freelance writer, I’ve found that I often get the quickest communication with editors over the holidays because they actually have far less work on their end.

Great example, John. It’s easy to fall into the holiday slowdown. While I am a strong proponent of family time during the holidays, there are still work opportunities that extend beyond the season.

Thanks for sharing your proof of that, John.

Love the idea of offers for procrastinators like me! I’ll try it.

Somehow I related to that, too, Anne. Hmm… 🙂

Great list, Cathy. I especially like sending a free product/service to a loyal client as a holiday “thank you.” Another thing that doesn’t have so much to do with selling is simply sending a holiday card to past and current clients. It gets your name in front of them again, and doesn’t seem too “sales-y.”

Thanks, Ashley. Love your suggestion. It’s one I follow, and I add a holiday gift to my “anchor” clients. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
